Postmortem: the Thursday outage

DMDmitri Reyes1 min read

Our support volume would drop noticeably if this shipped. The current flow takes six clicks; it should take one.

Before you start

Even a read-only version would unblock us. Happy to test a beta build if that helps. Right now this costs us roughly two hours a week.

  1. Enable an RSS feed.
  2. Enable a Chrome extension.
  3. Enable bulk actions.

Step by step

Two people on the team have independently asked for this. The workaround breaks as soon as a second person is involved. We have a Zapier hack doing this today and it breaks weekly.

Next steps

This blocks the quarterly report we send to the exec team. This is the difference between a nice-to-have and a daily driver. It would let us retire an internal tool nobody wants to maintain.

  1. Enable vote weighting.
  2. Enable multi-language content.
  3. Enable granular email preferences.

Next steps

Our response times would improve without adding headcount. We are working around it with a spreadsheet, which is not sustainable. Not urgent, but it would save everyone about an hour a week.

What changes

We would stop exporting to a spreadsheet every Friday. Customers ask about this on nearly every onboarding call. We hit this every Monday during the weekly review.
